The context
Why this conversation, why now
In 2024, 1.60 million employed graduates, 32.2% of the total, were working below their qualifications. At the same time, AI adoption is reshaping what entry-level work looks like, and the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030 aims to create up to 300,000 AI-attributable jobs by 2030. The gap between campus and capability is widening just as demand for new capability accelerates.
Under the theme "From Campus to Capability: Building Industry-Ready Talent for the AI and Digital Economy", this high-level dialogue brings university leaders from Malaysia and China together with industry leaders to identify capability gaps, anticipate future workforce needs and agree practical partnership models that strengthen graduate readiness, innovation, productivity and competitiveness across ASEAN.
